Thanks to the faith and piety of one Bessarabian woman, the new Church of St. Nicholas and St. Stephen the Great is being built in the Moldovan town of Edineț.

In her will, Maria Andronache bequeathed her money to the Romanian Orthodox Church to build a church that will especially serve for the unity of the Romanian nation, reports the Basilica News Agency.

According to the stipulations in her will, the church will belong to the Romanian Patriarchate. “The services will be done in Romanian, and all ordained ministers will be Romanian priests, who will serve permanently for the Unity of the Romanian Nation,” Andronache wrote.

His Grace Bishop Antonie of Bălți consecrated the foundation stone on May 23, and construction is well underway. The lands was donated by a family from the city, and in addition to the funds left by Andronache, the construction is also supported by the State Secretariat for Religions of the Romanian government.
