On Monday, July 5, hierarchs of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia celebrated the consecration of the new altar of the Prague cathedral together with a special guest from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Joining His Eminence Archbishop Michael of Prague and His Grace Bishop Joachim of Beroun at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral was His Grace Bishop Simeon of Ugol, the vicar of the Ukrainian Khust Diocese, reports Orthodox Transcarpathia.
Bp. Simeon had arrived in the Czech Republic a few days earlier to celebrate the feast of St. John the Hermit of Bohemia (9th C.) together with the Czech hierarchs on Saturday, July 3.
The Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia has proven itself to be a true friend and defender of Orthodoxy in Ukraine, refusing to have communion with the schismatics of the “Orthodox Church in Ukraine.”
In particular, Abp. Michael of Prague has explicitly banned his clergy from serving with the schismatics, and Bp. Joachim has expressed his unwavering support for His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine and the canonical Ukrainian Church.
Another Ukrainian hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir of Vladimir-Volynsky, participated in the consecration of Supraśl Monastery’s Cathedral of the Annunciation in Poland late last month, together with a number of brother hierarchs of the Polish Church and the Georgian Church.
