After a month and a half in the hospital, Abbot Ephraim of Vatopedi Monastery on Mt. Athos has been discharged from the Athens hospital where he was being treated for COVID.

Fr. Ephraim tested positive for COVID on May 21, showing mild symptoms, and was then hospitalized. His condition seriously deteriorated and the abbot had to be intubated. Thankfully, his body responded to the treatments and his condition gradually improved.

According to a post on the monastery’s Facebook page, Fr. Ephraim left the hospital on Saturday morning but will continue treatments in a rehabilitation center.

Recall that Fr. Ephraim has an underlying heart condition. He suffered a heart attack in early 2019 and underwent heart surgery the next month, receiving two heart stents. Five stents had also been inserted in a previous operation.
