At its session yesterday, July 21, under the chairmanship of Patriarch Bartholomew, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople resolved to establish a new feast in honor of all physician saints.

The hierarchs discussed and evaluated the sacrificial contribution of medical science to combating the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, after which they decided to establish the Synaxis of All Holy Healers, reports Romfea.

The Synaxis will be celebrated annually on the Sunday closest to October 17 and 18.

October 17 is the celebration of the Synaxis of the Holy and Wonderworking Unmercenaries, who healed the sick while asking nothing in return. October 18 is the feast of the holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, who was himself a physician.

The new Synaxis of All Holy Healers will be celebrated on Sunday, October 17 this year.
