Metropolitan Nicephoros of Kinshasha (Congo) reposes in the Lord

His Eminence Metropolitan Nicephoros of Kinshasa of the Patriarchate of Alexandria reposed in the Lord last night.

The sad news was reported by His Grace Bishop Neofit of Nyeri and Mount Kenya, who writes:

Sad moment for our Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa. Another great spiritual giant has fallen. Metropolitan Nickiphoros of Kinshasa- Congo. Very kind, humble, ascetic, less talk but great mission. Rest In Peace our dear brother and concelebrant in the vineyard of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You were a walking saint on earth. Eternal be your memory.

He was airlifted from the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to a hospital in Thessaloniki yesterday after suffering an in-hospital infection of COVID-19. The air transport was coordinated by the Greek government and the governmental head of Mt. Athos, in cooperation with Congolese authorities.

Earlier this year, the Metropolitan laid the foundation for a new mission center in the city of Idiofa.
