A new school named in honor of the great wonderworker St. John (Maximovitch) of Shanghai and San Francisco is set to open soon in Estonia.
On July 23, the Orthodox School of St. John the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco received a license to operate from the Ministry of Education and Science, reports the Estonian Orthodox Church.
The school is intended primarily for children from the families of the Orthodox community in the capital city of Tallinn. The plan is to being with first grade and develop a full program over the course of the next 12 years.
The school program will be planned according to the Russian Classical School system, aimed at transmitting the cultural experience of previous generations and familiarizing students with Russian and Estonian culture and the basics of the Orthodox faith. The curriculum is based on the best pedagogical methods of 19th-20th-century Russia.
Overall, the school’s purpose is the formation of a holistic Christian worldview and moral qualities.
A Moleben of Thanksgiving will be held at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Tallinn on August 8.
