Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, August 31, 2021
Hundreds of people came out to venerate the wonderworking Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Mother of God at a central Pennsylvania parish last week.
“What a glorious evening at Holy Apostles on Thursday, August 26 when we were blessed to host the Myrrh-Streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Mother of God!” writes Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Mechanicsburg (OCA)on its Facebook page.
Millions of Orthodox Christians throughout the world have venerated the Hawaiian Iveron Icon, as its guardian, Deacon Nektarios Yangston, tirelessly travels with the precious image of the Most Holy Theotokos.
On this stop, 500 Orthodox Christians packed Holy Apostles Church “to bear witness to this modern-day miracle!”
A number of visiting priests joined rector Fr. Timothy Hojnicki in celebrating an Akathist before the myrrh-streaming icon, after which all the faithful were anointed with the holy myrrh.
“The overwhelming sense of joy, emotion, and electricity that filled the Church was palpable! Most Holy Theotokos, save us!” the church writes.
