A group Baptism was celebrated at a Ukrainian Orthodox church in Sweden on Sunday, August 29.

Given that less than 2,000 people live in the small town of Boliden in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden, it’s no small event when six people are baptized into the holy Orthodox Church on the same day.

Following the Sunday Divine Liturgy, Fr. Alexander Bednov celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism for three adults and three children at the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, reports the Zaporozhye Diocese of the Ukrainian Church.

The church was consecrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Luke of Zaporozhye with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine and in coordination with the Moscow Patriarchate’s Office for Foreign Institutions on November 26, 2017.

The parish was opened at the initiative of immigrants from Zaporozhye to northern Sweden. Fr. Alexander Bednov and another priest from Zaporozhye, Archpriest Maxim Smirnov, played an active role in the organization of the parish.
