Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, September 2, 2021
Thousands of dollars were raised at a recent charity event at the administration of the Stara Zagora Diocese of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
The local hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Cyprian, called upon all the faithful to donate towards the local oncology center in lieu of gifts for his name’s day on Tuesday. On that evening, more than $6,200 (10,275 Bulgarian Levs) were raised towards the goal of purchasing a DAKO Autostainer Link 48 machine, which will cost more than $60,000 (99,000 Levs), reports the Bulgarian Patriarchate.
As the Patriarchate report explains, the device shortens the time from diagnosis to the start of treatment, minimizes the possibility of human error, “and allows a single preparation to make a series of protocols of different tests to differentiate the exact type of the respective tumor, which would lead to a personalized therapy for patients.”
Altogether, $24,260 (40,000 Levs) have been collected in just over a month thus far.
