UPDATED Setepmber 15, 11:27 AM
The Holy Orthodox Order of St. George the Great Martyr has been asked to help facilitate funds for the transportation of clergy and laity to the state funeral and Liturgy of the late Metropolitan Jonah of Kampala and All Uganda of blessed memory, who reposed in the Lord on Sunday, September 6, in Athens, Greece.
His Eminence will be accorded an official state funeral, including a 21-gun salute, and a procession with the Ugandan army. It was originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, but His Eminence's body has not yet been returned from Athens, where he reposed.
St. Jacob Orthodox Church in Nawango, Kamuli, Uganda, and the Holy Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Nakyaka, Kamuli, Uganda, are in need of assistance to transport their clergy and faithful to the state funeral.
The expense for the four vans for the 155-mile journey is $1,200. All donations for this special emergency fundraiser go 100% directly to that purpose. The Order will retain nothing.
You can donate to this worthy cause on the Order’s website. Please indicate with your donation that it is for the funeral of Met. Jonah.
Please keep in your prayers the late Met. Jonah who touched so many hearts and lives. He brought many to the bosom of the Orthodox Church! May his memory be eternal!
