Fr. Emilian Hutnyan is always there to help his local community any way he can, says the mayor of Maple Heights, Ohio.

Thus, on Tuesday evening, Mayor Annette Blackwell awarded the rector of St. Andrew Church (OCA) the 2021 Maple Heights Citizen of the Year Award for being a “valued and selfless dedicated resident of Maple Heights,” reports the OCA Diocese of the Midwest.

Fr. Emilian, who celebrated the 30th anniversary of his ordination last year, regularly offers the church hall free of charge for municipal events and is always on hand to help with the distribution of food. He has also been called upon by the mayor and city administration to assist in conflict resolution, and he has offered his own money for a reward to residents who were instrumental in saving a young mother and daughter’s life.

Fr. Emilian is also known for his work with the youth in the area.
