By order No. P-01/22 of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia from November 27, His Grace Bishop Theophylact of Mytischi has been temporarily suspended from his duties as abbot of St. Andrew’s Monastery in Moscow, reports the official site of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The decision came after video surfaced of Bp. Theophylact striking and berating a priest in the altar at the monastery:

His Grace Bishop Savva of Zenelograd, Deputy Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate, spoke with TASS about the incident, explaining that Bp. Theophylact’s case is being studied by the General Church Disciplinary Commission. He has been suspended from serving while the investigation is ongoing.

“Since this is about a bishop, the results of the investigation will be presented to His Holiness the Patriarch and the Holy Synod,” Bp. Savva said.
