Moscow’s 200 Program reached a significant milestone on Sunday, with the consecration of the 100th church built as part of the program.
The program, which has been actively underway since 2011, aims to build enough churches in the capital for everyone to have one within walking distance. The program runs entirely on the donations of citizens and organizations.
The 100th church built was that of the Holy Equals-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius, in the northeast Rostokino District. The minor consecration was served on Sunday by His Eminence Metropolitan Zinovy of Saransk and Mordovia and His Eminence Archbishop Matthew of Yegoryevsk, reports Interfax-Religion.
The church was built at the expense of the Mordovian community in Moscow and other donors.
The church’s VKontakte social media page notes that regular services will begin with the feast of the Nativity of Christ next month.
