Greece: $3.5 million+ allocated for monastery and church restoration

One of the projects is the restoration of the defense tower and fortification enclosure of New Monastery (Nea Moni) in Chios, for which $783,475 (700,000 euros) has been allocated, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

The completion of this project will mark the complete restoration of the 11th-century monastery complex, which is honored as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The same outlet also reports on budget allocations for the restoration of three churches, including the maintenance of icons and stonework in Chios ($1,645,300/1,470,000 Euros), the restoration of the 9th-10th century Byzantine Church of Taxiarchis of the Metropolis and the maintenance of its icons ($895,400/800,000 euros), and the maintenance of the frescoes of the 11th-century Holy Monastery of Panagia Mavriotissa ($335,775/300,000 euros).

In total, $3,661,910 (3,270,000 euros) were allocated for the given projects.
