Photo: pravmir.com At its January session, the Rhode Island State Senate passed a resolution “joyously celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.”
The resolution was introduced by the Greek-born Leonidas Raptakis, State Senator and President of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association, and several other senators.
The document recounts the biography of Pat. Bartholomew, whom it terms “the spiritual leader of approximately 300 million Orthodox Christians across the globe and many millions in the Unites States,” and praises the Patriarch as a man of wisdom and patience who works hard to find peaceful resolutions to world conflicts and “in support of religious liberty and tolerance throughout the world” and environmental initiatives.
The resolution also notes the Patriarch’s many awards from various religious and secular organizations.
In conclusion, the Senate resolves to:
congratulate Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the 30th Anniversary of his election as the Ecumenical Patriarch on October 22, 1991. We thank him for his tireless efforts to promote world peace, to protect the environment, to support religious tolerance and liberty, and for being the inspirational leader of the world’s 300 million Orthodox Christians. We wish him many more years of good health, happiness, and success as the Ecumenical Patriarch and in his many noble endeavors;
A certified copy of the resolution was also sent to the Patriarch.
In October 2019, the U.S. House of Representatives honored Pat. Bartholomew on the 50th anniversary of his priesthood.
