The Holy Monastery of Panagia Vrantiani in Samos, Greece, was saved from fire by the protection and intercessions of its patron, the Most Holy Theotokos, says the Metropolis of Samos.

The diocesan statement notes that the fire had reached the monastery barns, “but by the grace and protection of our Panagia, the monastery won’t suffer any damage.”

The monastery “is famous for its superb icons and frescoes and for its marvelous gold inlaid wood-carved iconostasis,” according to Mystagogy. As the Metropolis notes, the monastery was completely destroyed except for its catholicon church by fire in July 2020, but was restored to its former glory.

The village of Vourliotes was evacuated, and as of this morning, crews were still working to put out the fire that continues to blaze in the area near the monastery.

“We are keeping an optimistic vigil, praying to our Mother Panagia, asking for her help and protection,” concludes the Metropolis of Samos.
