Orthodox Churches and neighboring countries continue to send much-needed humanitarian aid to those suffering in Ukraine and those taking refuge in other countries.

OrthoChristian has reported on such assistance several times since the fratricidal war began in Ukraine in early February.

In addition to those Churches previously reported on, aid has also been provided by the Latvian Orthodox Church, a self-governing Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. With the blessing and personal initiative of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexander of Riga, a commission was established to raise funds for refugees in Latvia.

As a result of the commission’s work, parishes of the Latvian Church gathered funds towards the purchase of 120 gift cards to a popular supermarket, worth $55 (50 euros) each, reports the Church’s press service.

And yesterday, another 60 cards to another supermarket, worth $55 each, and 150 cards to a local pharmacy, worth $22 (20 euros) each, were handed over to the Riga Center for Assistance to Ukrainian Refugees.

The cards will be specifically given to Ukrainian refugees with young children and refugees of retirement age.
