The lawyer who achieved the legal rehabilitation in Russia of Tsar Nicholas II and the Royal Family reposed yesterday.
German Lukianov, lawyer for the Russian Imperial House under Grand Duchess Maria Wladimirovna, died in Moscow at the age of 60 yesterday morning, Alexander Zakatov, the director of the Romanov House chancellery told Interfax.
“The Romanov House is grieving over the sudden death of our friend and colleague. German Lukianov made an invaluable contribution to the restoration of historical justice. This is an irreparable loss for all of us,” Zakatov said.
Russia’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of full rehabilitation of the Royal Martyrs—Tsar Nicholas, Empress Alexandra, the Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia, and the Grand Duke Alexei—in October 2008, 90 years after they were brutally slain in the Ipatiev House in Ekaterinburg.
The family was officially recognized as victims of “unfounded repression.”
“This decision shows the supremacy of law and the victory of justice over evil and tyranny,” Lukianov commented on the ruling.
A friend of the lawyer told TASS that he is survived by his wife, daughter, and sister.
