Sretensky Monastery celebrates 5th anniversary of consecration of massive cathedral

A joyous celebration was held at Moscow’s Sretensky Monastery yesterday in honor of the 5th anniversary of the consecration of its towering cathedral.

The Church of the Resurrection of Christ and the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church was consecrated on May 25, 2017, the feast of the Ascension of the Lord. The service was celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and a host of Russian hierarchs, including the newly departed Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral) and other ROCOR bishops.

The Divine Liturgy in the was celebrated in the cathedral yesterday by Abbot John (Ludischev) and the clergy of the monastery and attached seminary. A total of 38 clerics participated in the service, the monastery reports.

During the service, a special prayer was offered for all the founders of the church: His Eminence Metropolitan Tikhon of Pskov, who was abbot of Sretensky during the construction and consecration of the church, Abbot John and all the monastery brethren, and all those who labored for the sake of building the church.

The Liturgy was followed by a festive procession around the cathedral, with parishioners holding pictures of New Martyrs and Confessors.
