Yet another city council has decided to illegally ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, this time in the far western city of Lvov.

The ban was initiated by Deputy Yuri Lomaga of the European Solidarity Faction and voted on by the city council yesterday, reports the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

This is only the latest in a growing list of city and provincial authorities that are declaring bans against the Church. This most recently occurred on June 23 in Cherkasy.

The Church has repeatedly explained that such bans have no legal authority, and they do not enjoy the backing of federal authorities.

Even the Lvov Provincial authorities earlier declared the illegality of such attempted bans.

According to Vasil Dorosh, head of the Lvov Province Department of Religions and Nationalities:

Religious organizations in Ukraine, in accordance with the current legislation, can be liquidated or reorganized only on the parish’s own initiative or by a court decision, if their activities are recognized by the Security Service of Ukraine as illegal. At the same time, only the Verkhovna Rada can ban activities on the territory of Ukraine. According to the current legislation, religious organizations are separated from the state.

Glory to Jesus Christ! On July 3, 2022, the third Sunday after Pentecost, is also the Synaxis of the Saints of Galician Rus' - a Holy and Orthodox Land which is presently divided between Poland and the Ukraine. The commemoration of these Saints are of those who originated in or were associated with Galicia. Among them are Saints Cyril and Methodius, Enlighteners of the Slavs, St. Peter Metropolitan of Kiev and first Metropolitan of Moscow, St. Job of Pochaev, Saints Theodosius and Job of Maniava, Priest-Martyr Maksim Sandovich, Enlightener of the Uniats in North America Righteous Akeksii Tovt and several others. Through their Holy Prayers may the much-suffering Galician land arise from its spiritual enslavement.
