The liturgical glorification of the wonderworking Slavnogorsk Icon of the Mother of God was celebrated on Sunday in the Balta Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The Divine Liturgy with the rite of glorification was served by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexei of Balta and His Eminence Archbishop Viktor of Artsyz at the Convent of the Joy of All Who Sorrow Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Belka, Odessa Province, reports the Balta Diocese.
By decision of the UOC Holy Synod on May 12, the Balta Diocese received a blessing for the liturgical use of an akathist to the Slavnogorsk Icon:
During the service on Sunday, special petitions and prayers for peace in Ukraine were offered. Afterwards, a procession with the newly glorified icon was held around the main church of the monastery.
Abp. Viktor presented a Panagia with a piece of the Cincture of the Most Holy Theotokos as a gift to the Slavnogorsk Icon, reports the St. Elijah Monastery of which His Eminence is the abbot.
