Ksovrisi, Georgia, August 12, 2022
A new church was consecrated this week to serve the inmates of Georgia’s 10th Penitentiary Institution in the village of Ksovorisi, about an our outside of Tbilisi.
The church, named in honor of the Great Martyr and Healer St. Panteleimon, was consecrated by His Grace Bishop Giorgi of Marneuli and Khujabi, reports the Georgian Patriarchate.
The service was attended by the Georgian Minister of Justice, the head of the Special Penitentiary Service, and several clergymen and nuns.
His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II offered congratulations on the occasion:
I warmly welcome those of the 10th Penitentiary Institution and congratulate you on the construction of the church of the Lord named after St. Panteleimon the Healer, which you expressed your wish for last year. Today, the church is already ready to hold the first service and celebrate the Sacraments of repentance and purification. All this clearly shows your determination and your love for God.
May the Lord bless the work of all those who labored and contributed to this work.
May God bless and grant health to each of you—to the convicts, prison administration, and service staff.
May God bless the management of the penitentiary institutions and direct their lives and those incarcerated according to God’s path.
