Larga Nouă, Moldova, September 1, 2022
Four hierarchs of the Romanian Orthodox Church came together on Tuesday to consecrate a church in village in southwestern Moldova.
Larga Nouă was previously home to a church built in 1800, but the godless soviet authorities demolished it in 1954. Now the village is a home to a new church, dedicated to the Bringing of the Relics of St. Nicholas.
The consecration was celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Petru of Chișinău and Bessarabia, His Eminence Archbishop Casian of the Lower Danube, His Grace Bishop Veniamin of South Bessarabia, and His Eminence Bishop Atanasie, Vicar of the Diocese of Italy, reports the Basilica News Agency.
Abp. Casian spoke about the significance of the church consecration service, with appreciation for the sacrifice of the local community to build an altar dedicated to the great Holy Hierarch Nicholas. Bp. Atanasie preached on the Gospel, highlighting the spiritual context of the celebration, urging the faithful to participate in the Divine services.
Both the parish priest Fr. Constantin Dumitrașcu and the iconographer Adrian Dundev were awarded the diocesan Order of St. Ioan the New of Suceava for their labors in building the new church. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on October 20, 1996, and the iconography work began in 2011.
Abp. Casian offered the parish a set of holy vessels and liturgical utensils, and for the local children, he offered 100 backpacks full of school supplies.
