During his visit to the Diocese of Toliara and South Madagascar over the weekend, Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria consecrated a new monastery, named in honor of one of the 20th century’s greatest saints.
After visiting the diocesan seminary, the Patriarch “celebrated the consecration of the Holy Monastery of St. Joseph the Hesychast,” the Patriarchate of Alexandria reports.
According to the report, Pat. Theodoros consecrated the new cells, the trapeza, and the kitchen.
He also blessed the first novice nun, who received the name Gabriela.
In June of last year, OrthoChristian reported that Bishop Prodromos of Toliara and South Madagascar consecrated the church at a male monastery named for St. Joseph the Hesychast. A church dedicated to St. Joseph was consecrated in Tbilisi in August 2020. Last August, plans for a skete named for St. Joseph in western Romania were announced, and that October, plans for a Church of St. Joseph at ROCOR’s Iveron Mother of God Monastery in upstate New York were announced,
