Three years after the repose of its former hierarch His Eminence Archbishop Nikon of Boston, the Orthodox Church in America’s Albanian Archdiocese has elected a new bishop.

Clergy and lay representatives of the Archdiocese met for its annual and special assemblies at St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church in Queens, New York, September 22 to 24, where they elected Igumen Nikodhim (Preston) as their next bishop, the Archdiocese reports.

Fr. Nikodhim was ordained to the priesthood by Abp. Nikon in 2010, and in 2017, he was tonsured as a monastic, named in honor of the holy Martyr Nikodhim of Vithkuq and Berat. He currently serves as Chancellor of the Albanian Archdiocese and rector of the St. Nicholas Church in Queens.

The Archdiocese, which consists of 11 parishes, mainly scattered throughout New England, now awaits the confirmation of his election by the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America.

It is a great and unforgivable crime, this action that a person who is not of Albanian origin, who does not speak the language of the Albanian community in the USA, is in charge of the Albanian Archbishopric in America. Only in the Albanian Archbishopric in America and with the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in Albania, this phenomenon occurs, that the Primate, the main leader of the Church, is not Albanian. Any Orthodox Archdiocese in America or any Autonomous, local and Autocephalous Church, the primacy is from the country or origin that the community represents. In the Greek Archdiocese it is Greek, in the Romanian Archdiocese it is Romanian, Serbian is Serbian, Georgian is Georgian, and most other Orthodox churches respect this. Only the Orthodox Albanians in America and Albania do not have this opportunity and luck or honor for their Archbishop to be Albanian and to speak their language. Here is a deliberate injustice.

It’s so sad they had better candidates to elect for Albanian Bishop, they had Archimandrite Father Theophan Koja very intellectual and well educated in Orthodox theology school in Romania, which Father Theophan speaks Albanian, Greek, Latin, Rumanian and of course English. Sadly, OCA is nothing but just heresy as you can see their clergy, on the other hand OCA is not recognized by any other Orthodox Church except Russian Othodox Church:(
