Kiev, October 10, 2022
The Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Kiev was blessed with a miraculous manifestation through the icon of its patron saint last week.
On October 7, on the eve of the feast of St. Sergius, when the church was also scheduled to be consecrated, the faithful noticed a sweet fragrance coming from the icon in the lower Church of St. Alexander Nevsky. After the All-Night Vigil began, they also began to notice drops on the saint’s face and hands, the Church of St. Sergius reports.
His Eminence Metropolitan Philaret of Lviv and the rector Archpriest Yaroslav Shovkenik opened the icon case and the church immediately filled with a strong fragrance similar to that of the relics of St. Sergius, St. Job of Pochaev, or St. Demetrios in Thessaloniki.
“The people were in a state of spiritual joy … feeling this grace,” the church reports.
During the polyeleos, a drop of myrrh from the icon was mixed with the oil being used to anoint the faithful.
The next day, the church was festively consecrated by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine. The Ukrainian primate was concelebrated by nine hierarchs and local and visiting clergy.
The service ended with the rite of glorification of St. Sergius before the myrrh-streaming icon.
