In 2012, construction on the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos began at the Holy Trinity-St. Seraphim Diveyevo Monastery.

The cathedral is built on a plot encircled by the Holy Canal of the Theotokos according to the prophecy of St. Seraphim of Sarov himself, who told the sisters of the convent that a cathedral would stand there.

And on Sunday, the cathedral was consecrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, as part of his visit to the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis, reports Patriarchia.ru.

The Patriarch was concelebrated by the local hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and 12 other hierarchs of the Russian Church, with local and visiting clergy.

The relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov were brought to the Annunciation Cathedral from the monastery’s Holy Trinity Cathedral especially for the consecration service. The Patriarch read a prayer to St. Seraphim before the relics at the end of the service.

Met. George greeted the Patriarch and offered him an icon of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos. Abbess Sergia of Diveyevo also presented him with a holy prosphora and a diptych with icons of St. Seraphim and the Tenderness Icon of the Mother of God.

In turn, Pat. Kirill presented the abbess with a commemorative cross and an icon of St. Nicholas for the new cathedral. Icons of the Annunciation were also distributed to all the faithful.
