On Wednesday, October 26, SBU officers scoured the home of His Eminence Metropolitan Joasaph of Kirovograd and Novomirgorod, who is suspected of harboring pro-Russian sympathies, reports the Ukrainian outlet Grechka.
The home of His Eminence Metropolitan John of Tulchin was also searched earlier this month, and the Holy Dormition-Pochaev Lavra was searched last week.
“This is a secret investigation, so we can’t comment on these events,” a representative of the Kirovograd Diocese told Grechka.
The SBU also declined to comment. “We’re trying to avoid tension in society,” a representative said.
In August, Met. Joasaph was accused of having congratulated His Holiness Patriarch Kirill on his name’s day in May, though the press service of the Kirovograd Diocese said this was fake news.
According to activist Andriy Lavrus, among the incriminating items found in the Metropolitan’s residence were the orange and black St. George ribbon, books about the Ukrainian schism, and a book by Patriarch Kirill.
