The Council of Ministers of Cyprus declared six days of public mourning yesterday following the early morning repose of Archbishop Chrysostomos, the primate of the Cypriot Orthodox Church who struggled with cancer in the last several years of his life.

The mourning period will continue until the Archbishop’s funeral on Saturday, reports the Cypriot Church.

All official state events are postponed during the mourning period, and flags will be flown at half-staff in all schools and government buildings. President Nikos Anastasiadis will deliver a eulogy at the funeral.

Hierarchs in Cyprus and throughout the Orthodox world have also expressed their mourning and condolences, and Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople is expected to attend the funeral.

Abp. Chrysostomos will be buried in the crypt underneath the cathedral in Nicosia.
