Bishop Emilianos (Koutouzis)
What does it mean to have a spiritual father? It means having someone who will guide our spirit into Union with the Holy Spirit.
In simple form, this is what Bp. Emilianos received from Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra on how to find a real, ontological, existential connection with God.
Although Elder Aimilianos is not canonized a saint by the Church yet, we had a tradition on Mount Athos: Before we started any activity or work, we would say: “Through the prayers of my Holy Father.” I still do this myself.
This love for my Elder taught me how to give up my life now for the Church, for my spiritual children.

Translated as “watchfulness” or “vigilance,” nepsis refers to the guarding of the mind and heart against harmful thoughts, temptations and distractions.
He’s not canonized but we all believe that he’s a saint; and saints like him are very rare—they’re very, very unique.
