Nicosia, Cyprus, November 14, 2022
Hierarchs and clergy from throughout the Orthodox world gathered in Nicosia on Saturday for the funeral of His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus, who reposed in the Lord last Monday at the age of 81.
The service was presided over by Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople at the Cathedral of the Holy Apostle Barnabas in the Cypriot capital, with the assistance of the members of the Cypriot Holy Synod, reports Romfea.
The service was also attended by the Cypriot and Greek presidents and other state officials, and representatives of other religious denominations.
Eulogies were offered by Pat. Bartholomew, Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos, the Locum Tenens of the Cypriot Church, President Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus, and President Katerina Sakellaropoulou of Greece.
Pat. Bartholomew emphasized that he was making his first trip to Cyprus “in order to say goodbye to our much-loved brother, co-minister and personal friend, and to support his abandoned children.”
Abp. Chrysostomos was laid to rest in the crypt underneath the cathedral.
