A St. Petersburg court imposed a fine of 80,000 rubles ($1,325) yesterday against a blogger convicted of taking a lewd photo in front of the iconic Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood.
The court ruled that 17-year-old Andrei Kurdov and a friend, who took a photo in which they were naked from the waist down in front of the church, did so “with the aim of fulfilling a criminal intent aimed at committing public acts expressing disrespect for society, committed in order to offend the feelings of believers by mockery against the backdrop of a religious building.”
Kurdov plead guilty.
In a similar case in March, St. Petersburg resident Irina Volkova was ordered to fulfill 180 hours of community service after she published a photo of herself in her underwear against the background of St. Isaac’s Cathedral.
