A new online educational program for laity has been launched by the main theological institution of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary in Jordanville, New York, is now offering a program of self-paced courses, covering the areas of Sacred Scripture, apologetics, Church Fathers, liturgics, and various contemporary issues.

The program is open to Orthodox Christians, catechumens, inquirers, and anyone who wants to sign up, the seminary reports.

Each course is approximately 5 hours long, consisting of four or five one-hour lectures.

The first course is on Psalms and the Spiritual Life, with Fr. John Boddecker, the seminary’s professor of Holy Scripture. It will cover the following themes:

  • History of the Psalms in the Temple and the Church

  • The art of Biblical poetry

  • Different types of Psalms and their interpretation

  • The Psalms and the spiritual life

  • The portrait of Christ in the Psalms

Each five-hour course regularly costs $80, but the seminary is offering a 25% discount on the first course ($60). Learn more about the program and sign up at the seminary website.

The Pastoral School of ROCOR’s Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America is also accepting applications for its spring semester, now through February 1, with classes beginning February 13. Learn more at the school’s site.

A member of my Western Rite ROCOR parish wants to study to become a Priest. He is employed, married and a father of two. Can Jordanville provide appropriate online courses to him which would assist in his journey?
