At the request of some local faithful, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the southwestern French commune of Vaux-sur-Mer last month.

According to the Archdiocese of Orthodox Churches of the Russian Tradition in Western Europe (Moscow Patriarchate), the service on November 26 was the first ever Divine Liturgy in the canton of Royan.

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Jean of Dubna, Fr. Matthieu (Maciej Leszczynski) of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris traveled 300 miles to the seaside commune of Vaux-sur-Mer with a handful of singers to celebrate the service in the local Catholic Church of St. Stephen.

It is a Catholic church that has been lent to the Orthodox community for the celebration. The priest and the faithful are Orthodox. In Western Europe this is a very frequent case. I would like to point out that the church dates from the 12th century. It is a Romanesque architecture which is very "orthodox" indeed.

It's a Catholic Church building, as there's no Orthodox Church building. So no Iconastasis.

Alexander, that would be because it //is// a Catholic church, as the article says.

Alexander, Your comment is inaccurate. There are significant differences between Catholicism and Orthodoxy. Here are a couple resources for you or anyone else who may think as you. https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=AwrNOjJnrphjt6QOIFj7w8QF?fr=mcafee&ei=UTF-8&type=E211US714G91670&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Av%2Cm%3Asp-qrw-corr-top&norw=1&p=youtube+fr.+josiah+tren+an+orthodox+perspective+on+roman+catholicism#id=13&vid=f6510b78f1fa5135e4e86488ba2b9ce9&action=view https://www.ancientfaith.com/podcasts/orthodoxyheterodoxy/rome_part_2a https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/orthodoxy-and-heterodoxy/id334831866

Looks like a catholic church. There is no difference.
