The feast of St. Sava on January 27 was a special occasion for the faithful of one Serbian Orthodox parish in Argentina.

On that day, two golden crosses were blessed and erected atop the Church of the Holy Trinity in the city of Resistencia, the capital of the province of Chaco in northeastern Argentina, reports the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of South and Central America.

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Kirilo, together with Hieromonk Nikita from the St. Nicholas Monastery in Machagai, and the local rector Protopresbyter Branko Stanišić.

Reflecting upon the great evangelical labors of St. Sava, Bp. Kirilo exhorted that “all of us, his children, must strive to be worthy heirs, to serve the Lord the way he served, with all our hearts and souls, and to testify to the truth of Orthodoxy here in these parts of South America for all peoples.”

The raising of the crosses on the day of St. Sava is “yet another testimony that the mission of our Serbian Orthodox Church, which was started by the blessed Metropolitan Amfilohije and which we continue here, is a work pleasing to God and worthy of our holy ancestors,” the hierarch said.

After the Liturgy, the rite of blessing the crosses was served, and they were then lifted up on top the church and the bell tower.
