This year marks the 25th anniversary of the great event, when her relics were moved from their original resting place in Danilov Cemetery to the monastery in 1998. The related feast was established by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2013.
The feast was led this year by His Eminence Metropolitan Theognost of Kashira, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism, with the celebration of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts in the monastery’s Resurrection Cathedral, the monastery reports.
The service was broadcast on large screens installed on the monastery square to accommodate the thousands of faithful that came to venerate St. Matrona.
At the end of the Liturgy, Met. Theognost venerated and read a prayer before the relics of St. Matrona.
A festive meal was organized for all pilgrims throughout the day, including lunch, tea, and monastery pastries.
