Archbishop of Athens delivers humanitarian aid to Patriarchate of Antioch (+VIDEO)

Beirut, March 22, 2023

The head of the Orthodox Church of Greece arrived in Beirut, Lebanon, yesterday to personally deliver humanitarian aid to the Patriarchate of Antioch, which is still helping the people recover from the devastating earthquakes last month.

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and his accompanying delegation were greeted at the Beirut International Airport by His Beatitude Patriarch John of Antioch.

“This difficult trial moved the Greek people to stand close with you,” the Greek primate says, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

For his part, Pat. John thanked Abp. Ieronymos, the Greek ambassador to Lebanon, and the Greek people for their support. Following a relevant decision by the Greek Holy Synod, food, clothing, and personal hygiene items were gathered for the earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey.

In the evening, the two primates celebrated Great Vespers at the Church of the Holy Cross in Damascus. Today they will celebrate Great Vespers at the Patriarchal Monastery of Balamand.

The Archbishop’s visit will end tomorrow.
