Kiev, March 28, 2023
The head of the Ukrainian Church’s Representation to European International Organizations released an English-language video yesterday, informing the world about the Church, its monasteries, and the many troubles it is currently facing.
His Eminence Archbishop Viktor of Baryshevka emphasizes that the UOC is the largest religious confession in Ukraine, and even one of the largest Orthodox Churches in the world. It has more than 4,600 monastics in 262 monasteries, which is nearly 20 times as many as the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine.”
Just the three Lavras—in Kiev, Pochaev, and Svyatogorsk—have more than 600 monks. But the Ukrainian authorities are currently evicting the monks from the Kiev Caves Lavra, even after they literally raised it from the ruins with their own hands and prayer.
The Kiev Theological Academy, located on the territory of the Kiev Caves Lavra, also has more than 250 students, who the state intends to kick out onto the street.
Nevertheless, the Church continues to pray for its country and for peace.
