One diocese in south-central Serbia has launched a campaign to build houses for socially vulnerable families.

And on Sunday, May 7, His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Niš consecrated the foundations of the first houses in Medveđa, where he served Liturgy that morning at the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, reports the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The initiative between the diocese and the municipality of Medveđa is supported by loving people and organizations from Serbia and around the world.

Bp. Arsenije and Mayor Dragan Kulić both expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the project and the wide response from people interested in helping out.

It is planned to build five houses this year for families with multiple children. And the hope is that as many houses as possible will be built in the coming years.

The first two families should be able to move in in June. Their houses are being built with funds provided by the Serbs for Serbs and Our Serbs from Chicago humanitarian organizations.
