The feast of the Leavetaking of Pascha was a joyous day for the brotherhood of Holy Cross Monastery (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia) in Wayne, West Virginia.

On that day, the monastery clergy were joined by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, First Hierarch of ROCOR, who celebrated the Divine Liturgy and blessed the foundation of the new church under construction at the monastery.

The monastery reports:

On Wednesday, May 24 – the Apodosis of Pascha – the grace of God was poured out with overwhelming abundance on the brotherhood of Holy Cross Monastery. Our beloved First Hierarch Metropolitan Nicholas presided at a Hierarchal Divine Liturgy, which was festively served (according to ancient custom) exactly as on on Holy Pascha itself. Our joy was made yet more full when, immediately following the Great Entrance, His Eminence ordained our own Hierodeacon Isaac to the holy priesthood.

Following the Liturgy, Met. Nicholas led a procession to the construction site of the new church, where he celebrated the Rite of the Foundation of a Church. The relics of the Holy Apostle Andrew, Patriarch St. Tikhon, Hieromartyr Hilarion (Troitsky) of Verey, and St. Alexis Toth of Wilkes-Barre were placed into the east wall of the church, and two cornerstones were blessed.

The monastery report continues:

His Eminence then congratulated the brotherhood on this historic occasion, reminded us of the great gratitude which we ought to feel in our hearts for all the tremendous blessings which the Lord has poured out upon us unworthy ones, and lastly exhorted everyone to continue their prayers and labors toward the completion of this God-pleasing work.

There are 6 days left in the monastery’s current matching funds campaign for the ongoing construction of the church. To date, it has raised $155,970 of its $200,000 goal.
