A free soup kitchen operated by the Georgian Orthodox Church relaunched over the weekend, after it was forced to shut down due to the COVID pandemic.

The social service, established with the blessing and support of His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, has been operating in the courtyard of Tbilisi’s Sameba-Holy Trinity Cathedral for many years, reports the Georgian Orthodox Church.

And on Saturday, July 8, the service started again. In the initial stage, it can serve 150 people.

The program was renovated and equipped to modern standards with financial support from International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and the Patriarch’s Good Samaritan Foundation.

IOCC has been operating a number of projects in Georgia since 1994. See the IOCC site for more details.
