Kenya: Seven students baptized at growing Orthodox school

Nairobi, Kenya, August 14, 2023

One Orthodox school and community center in Kenya has been blessed with several pieces of good news lately.

Fr. Antipas Odhiambo of the Ngando Orthodox Christian School and Community Outreach Center in Nairobi, Kenya, is glad to report that he has received seven more youths into the faith from his student body during a recent Baptismal Liturgy, increasing the number of converts to his flock coming from the school.

Along with these Baptisms, Father received a generous donation from St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church in Roswell, Georgia, that will build a much-needed fence around the 10-acre property that was purchased with donated funds in 2020.

Fr. Antipas explains that the land was acquired to

develop and establish a mission center here in Kenya in my village where we hope to establish an orphanage, school, a chapel, and a health center. We also wish to begin growing crops and keeping livestock for sustainability and we pray that God will send us help to accomplish the work. We are grateful for the donation that has been graciously given to us and we are planning to travel to my home village to begin the work on the land we acquired a few years ago by the grace of God.

Fr. Antipas and his staff of 10 teachers will travel to Western Kenya this week to build the fence themselves, showing a great desire and ability for establishing a self-sustaining parish and mission.

Self-sustainability and empowering the local population to become economically independent is a key objective in the establishment and success of Orthodox missions, teaching the labor and skills necessary to facilitate economic improvement and bring the Orthodox faith to villages and counties of Kenya.

Please consider supporting Fr. Antipas as he struggles to gain traction in developing this new mission. His determination, and commitment to spreading the Gospel of Christ, together with that of his loyal teaching staff who selflessly give of themselves to their beloved students for the sake of a better life, economically and spiritually, is firm and needs the support of those with like hearts who are inclined to help the development and spread of the Gospel and Orthodoxy across the African continent.
