The Monastery of the Entrance of the Theotokos Into the Temple in Lepavina, Croatia, celebrated a great event on Sunday.

That day, a novice was tonsured into the small schema—the first tonsure at the monastery in nearly 20 years, reports the Metropolis of Zagreb and Ljubljana.

The monastery was founded in the mid-16th century by an Athonite monk from Hilandar.

The rite was served by His Grace Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South and Central America, who was recently appointed the administrator of the diocese, after Vespers at the monastery. Being tonsured, Novice Vada Šuković received the name Paraskeva.

In his sermon after the tonsure, Bp. Kirilo spoke about the significance of monasticism for the life of the Church and about Sister Paraskeva’s path to the monastery:

Sister Paraskeva, who has a master’s degree in economics and worked in a bank, realized that the world economy is the opposite of the spiritual economy, where you have as much as you earn, as much as you accumulate funds or take from others. However, in the spiritual economy you get as much as you give—it moves in the opposite direction. She understood that and followed that type of economy and offered God the highest thing that a person can offer—herself. Let’s pray that God will strengthen her and that she will be the nucleus, the beginning of the restoration of the Convent of St. Paraskeva in Zagreb.

Yesterday, OrthoChristian reported on the tonsuring of five men and the clothing of two men as novices at Podmaine Monastery in Montenegro.
