First Liturgy at new convent in Odessa (+VIDEO)

The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated at a newly established monastery in the Odessa Diocese of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Sunday, October 1.

The service at the new Convent of the Healer Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Kholadnaya Balka, Odessa Province, was led by His Eminence Metropolitan Agafangel and Izmail, reports the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

His Eminence was concelebrated by a host of hierarchs and clerics of the UOC.

Abbesses and sisters from various convents of the Odessa region and numerous pilgrims attended the service.

Photo: news.church.ua Photo: news.church.ua Before the start of the Liturgy, the Passion Icon of the Mother of God and an icon with relics of Hieromartyr Makary of Kanev were carried in procession to the monastery, where they will remain. The full relics of St. Makary were transferred from Pereyaslav to Cherkassy last November.
