His Eminence Archbishop Michael of New York and New Jersey (Orthodox Church in America) will lead another pro-life prayer service in Queens, New York, on Saturday, October 21. Information about event was posted on the Archbishop’s schedule.
To participate please contact Orthodox Christians Pro-Life at 917-428-3560 or info@orthodoxchristiansprolife.org.
Besides street activities and educational programs, Orthodox Christians Pro-Life help women in crises pregnancies.
In June, OrthoChristian reported about a single mother of two who was pregnant with twin boys. She recently gave birth to the boys prematurely, and for a few days they needed machines to breathe, but now the boys are breathing on their own.
St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Pro-Life Society urgently needs help to complete their baby registry. Help the Pro-Life Society show Mom K. she isn’t alone in her struggles.
In his sermons during prayer services by abortion “clinics,” Archbishop Michael often emphasizes that we have to support women to help them make the right choice and flourish in life.
In particular, during the prayer service near the Brooklyn abortion “clinic” in July, His Eminence shared good news about a successful fundraiser event for the Zoe for Life center that operates together with the diocese in Binghamton, NY. Vladyka Michael explained that the collected funds will cover essential needs like diapers, clothes, car seats, and more. Referring to Orthodox charitable activities, the hierarch stressed the importance of the work of Orthodox Christians Pro-Life in New York City. “This is the way we have to prove that we’re a part of the solution,” he concluded.
After another prayer service near an abortuary in Brooklyn in August, Abp. Michael pointed out in his sermon that so many times in the history of the world it was only one person or a handful of people who stood on the right side of God. For example, Prophet Elijah stood alone against multitude of “prophets” of Baal. “I think of the twelve, small number, who with their prayers and their martyrdom” changed the world, the hierarch continued. “I think of St. Mark of Ephesus who stood against his fellow bishops—stood for the truth, faith…” And all of them were vindicated, the Archbishop said. He added, “so we stand here today small in number, praying… that the life created by God in the womb will be brought to life.” “I encourage you here on the streets of Brooklyn, in the state of New York, throughout this country, oversees, and throughout the world to stand firm in the faith,” the Archbishop called on the faithful.
St. John the Forerunner Pro-Life Society also calls on Orthodox Christians outside New York City to form a national Orthodox Christians Pro-Life movement. Fill out this form to get started.
This year, prayer services near abortuaries in New York City were held in the frost in January, in heavy rain in April, and in the hot summer months. The weather wasn’t an obstacle for women to come into the “death camps” so it shouldn’t be an obstacle for Orthodox Christians to witness to their faith, the Pro-Life Society believes.
Also, pro-life street events are a good opportunity to reach out to people. For example, in August, Orthodox Christians Pro-Life held an educational event at Wall Street in Manhattan, and received a lot of support from New Yorkers and visitors. Watch these short videos from the event: Keilah and Danielle from New York, Tony from Ohio, Sharon, Dominica and Rochelle from Virginia, Bryan and Tamsen (New York and the United Kingdom), a passer-by.
The Pro-Life Society needs help to cover its essential needs and continue its activities.
