Relics of St. Gabriel of Georgia gifted to Kazakhstan cathedral

During a recent meeting with His Eminence Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and His Grace Bishop Claudian of Taldykorgan, Archimandrite Gabriel (Tutberidze), a cleric of the Georgian Orthodox Church who provides spiritual care to the Georgian diaspora in the Almaty Province, presented the hierarchs with a particle of the relics of St. Gabriel (Urgebadze) of Georgia, reports the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan.

The relics were offered with the blessing of His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia.

St. Gabriel, who reposed in 1995, has become one of the most beloved saints today throughout the Orthodox world.

Met. Alexander expressed his gratitude to Pat. Ilia and Archimandrite Gabriel, nothing the importance of the sacred gift for the spiritual strengthening and support of the faithful of Kazakhstan.

With help from benefactors of the Metropolitan District, a special reliquary will be made for the relics and an icon of St. Gabriel will be painted. The relics will be kept in the Holy Ascension Cathedral in Almaty.
