Metropolitan Antony, the Prime Hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and Diaspora (Patriarchate of Constantinople) was released from the hospital on Friday, January 26, on the anniversary of his enthronement as UOC-USA primate.

The Metropolitan was rushed to an emergency room on January 21 before the start of the Sunday Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New York City due to a known heart-related issue, reports the UOC-USA.

Though he was able to leave the hospital later that day, he was hospitalized again on Thursday, January 25. However, he was released from the hospital the next day, on the 11th anniversary of his enthronement as the Prime Hierarch of the UOC-USA.

“As the spiritual leader faced a recent health challenge that led to hospitalization, the timing of his release on the 11th anniversary of his enthronement becomes a testament to the providence of faith and the endurance of his leadership,” the report reads.

“Metropolitan Antony, in a statement following his release, expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support he received during his time of illness. He acknowledged the significance of the timing and the role of faith in guiding him through the challenges of both his recent health journey and his eleven years of service as Prime Hierarch.”

Met. Antony also underwent a three-week stay in the hospital and a rehabilitation center following a car accident in August 2018.

Archbishop Daniel of the UOC-USA was also hospitalized in December.
