The Kazan Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church managed to collect more than 6,000 kilograms for food for the needy in just two days this weekend.

On February 9–10, the Basket of Kindness charity event was held throughout the city of Kazan, during which shoppers at major grocery stores had the opportunity to purchase food to donate to the needy, reports the Metropolis of Tatarstan.

The donations were physically received in the supermarkets by the Sisters of Mercy and other diocesan volunteers. Altogether, 6,254 kilograms of food were collected to then be donated to people in various difficult situations, people with disabilities, large and poor families, and families of military personnel.

The donated food includes pasta, flour, sugar, salt, canned foods, vegetable oil, tea, coffee, sweets, cookies, and dried fruits.
