Over the course of a little more than a year, volunteers from Russian Church’s Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Services repaired hundreds of private homes in war-torn Mariupol.

757 people, from 70 Russian cities have helped repair 200 homes for the elderly and disabled since March 8, 2023, reports Patriarchia.ru.

New volunteer teams arrive every week. Altogether, the organizers of the project plan to restore 1,000 private homes for the elderly, the disabled, and women with children in Mariupol and other cities.

“The city provides building materials, but people with disabilities, lonely old people, and women with children can’t repair their homes on their own,” shared the project organizer, Deacon Igor Kulikov. “There’s still a lot of work to do, over the next six months, as long as the weather allows. We need to repair as many roofs as possible so that people can live in warmth come autumn and winter.”

Volunteers work on repairing roofs, repairing floors, restoring communications, replacing doors and windows, and plastering walls, ceilings and slopes of residential buildings.
