As Gay Pride month ensues, liberals in step with LGBT propaganda originating from the U.S. are holding marches in various countries around the world. Most Orthodox Christian-majority countries put up resistance, however.

For some reason, the LGBT march organizers in Ukraine expressed the desire to hold their “Equality March” in the subway system of the capital city. But the Kiev city authorities have announced on their official website that they will not allow the march to take place in the metro, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists, citing the Kiev city website.

For safety reasons, the march organizers were asked to choose another location. The announcement notes that if the march is held, the responsibility for ensuring all safety measures lies with the organizers.

First Deputy Chairman of the KCSA, Mykola Povoroznyk states website on the official website, “We understand that human rights and informational-educational events aimed at promoting equality are important, even under martial law. However, the Kiev metro is a dual-purpose facility and part of the city's critical infrastructure; it is always a high-risk area due to limited space, train schedules, and high passenger traffic. We cannot endanger event participants and passengers. Therefore, to avoid possible provocations, we cannot allow the Equality March to be held in the metro.”

Nevertheless, the “Equality March” organizers don’t care what the city of Kiev says. In answer to the Kiev city website statement, the organizers have stated that they never asked the city of Kiev to stop the trains for their march, and that the event will take place in one or another form without any official permission from the Kiev city administration or the Kiev metro authorities, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported yesterday.

Most Ukrainians are against LGBT propaganda. A graph on the Visit Ukraine website shows that as of December 2023, only 20.16 percent of the population supported this movement. This is up significantly from earlier years, apparently due to inroads made by various Western NGOs, resulting in, among other things, the publications of children’s books endorsing LGBT. The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has funded various LGBT projects in recent years.

In 2021, when the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was weighing in on the government’s current decision to push “tolerance”, Bishop Victor of Baryshevka wrote on his Telegram channel that LGBT ideology is being aggressively imposed and its supporters are unwilling to enter into a discussion and hear the other side, because of a “lack of conviction of their own rightness.”

“We must remember that culture has been shaped by certain axiomatic principles, including that marriage is between one man and woman”, the hierarch wrote. That is, the law of God is the heart of civilization, but now we are seeing attempts to construct a new civilization, “where there is no longer a place for Christian morality and Christians in general.”
